Simple, right? Well it’s not quite so straightforward, because a keeper needs to offer all this and more. It is not just about a good look, whether you look good or make you partner look good, not just about simple respect and humour. It is not about cooking him a nice meal nor doing the chores. It is all a bit more in the details. But what exactly do the Irish men look for in a girlfriend? You can read it here:
Respecting the man is one thing – but in actual fact you need to demand respect in return too. We’ll almost certainly moan when you keep us in check a little, but we’ll respect you for not letting us get away with bad behaviour.
Your spirit is important, nobody is looking for a push over as a long term girlfriend, and we don’t want to feel that we’re your whole life and you rely on us for everything. The balance here is displaying independence, while showing you care for us too.
It’s funny how a great sense of humour is important to all us Irish, yet we don’t want to be with a party animal as a girlfriend – we see them more as a fling but nothing serious. Enjoying the craic is important though – let’s enjoy it together.
And how about making us look good? That’s about supporting us when we’re with other people we care about – our family, our mates, our boss even. And that leads on to looking good, we like women to look great, to make some effort with clothes and their appearance, but please don’t become obsessed shopaholics. It’s all about balance. If we forget to reciprocate, and we’re sorry, that might happen, just remind us.
A difficult question is how sexy should you be, especially early on. The more subtle you are the more we’ll love you for it and want more.
This isn’t scientific, it’s from many conversations with friends, of both sexes, and over many years, there may be little shifts in emphasis, but the basics remain true. Compatibility and respect are a great base and let’s keep laughing.
